Wong Kar Wai Dreams
WONG KAR WAI DREAMS uses a whimsical, lyrical, and visual map to locate the famed Hong Kong maverick director precisely in a place and time—Singapore, December 2046 when he is shooting his last film of his career: a visual pastiche of eccentric visual rhymes and coincidences in a city where ultimately the desires and yearnings of his characters ensure an ambiguity that denies closure.
Inspired by Italio Calvino’s Invisible Cities and Alan Lightman’s Einstein’s Dreams, WONG KAR WAI DREAMS is a mind-stretching meditation on Singapore and its paradoxes, transporting audiences to the far edge of time and back with wilder tales than Marco Polo’s.
Produced by The Straits Times Life! Theatre Award winning team of Furthest North, Deepest South, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and Twisted (Best Director; Best Lighting Designer and Best Sound Designer), and featuring the best acting talents from both English and Chinese theatre scenes in a signature blend of puppetry and human actors, WONG KAR WAI DREAMS promises to be heartbreakingly beautiful and revolutionary.
