Initially, I wanted to create a ceramic White House 小白宫 for Sponge Girl. But upon receiving the immaculately-designed container (undoubtedly measured to perfection by Oliver Chong), I then decided to make a Little White Boat 小白船 (had the privilege of acting in this play before) to fit snugly into it.
I’ve always lamented that all-white cannot tahan dirty spots (the OCD in me speaking and being brainwashed by UIC detergent commercials of yesteryears) so the origami-like ceramic boat was fired with a speckled white glaze.
I’ve personally always struggled with calling myself different names in different languages and wondered: how would Sponge Girl introduce herself in Singapore?

Danny Yeo 楊君偉 is a veteran cross-media practitioner with more than 3 decades of rich experience in various fields — radio, television, print, film — and implants himself passionately in theatre directing, performing and creating. Since 1994, he has played leading roles in more than 20 plays with Drama Box, developed Singapore Repertory Theatre’s Mandarin children musicals, originated innovative theatre series including BODY X, Child’s Play, Rubbish Prince, Rattle King and Ding Yi Music Company’s first instrumental theatre concert Warlords. He has written for 5 local movies, published 6 books, and hosted more than 22 infotainment programmes, winning Best Current Affairs Presenter (Singapore & Asia) at Asian Academy Creative Awards 2020. His practice as a studio potter at Sam Mui Kuang Pottery has seen his ceramics exhibited in Singapore and Paris. Most recently, he was handpicked as a featured artist at Temenggong-SG-Creatives 2023.
